Low tyre noise
is essential when buying tyres and finding quiet tyres can be a challenge.
Since 2012, tyres sold in Europe must be labelled for three aspects that affect
the tyres characteristics. One is fuel
economy, two is wet weather
drivability and most important on their roads is low noise levels.
With fast freeways, autobahns and autostradas often weaving through densely populated areas, traffic noise can be an annoyance to residents nearby. The European Union have decreed that tyres have to meet a certain decibel level to be acceptable for use all over the European countries.
Tyre manufacturers have responded accordingly with building modern tyres with smoother tread designs which is the major contributing noise factor within a tyres construction. Some tyres have sound deadening components built in, such as a layer of foam rubber on the inside of the tyre directly under the tread area.
Most people with modern cars will notice how quiet the car is on the road, so in most cases the tyres may be the noisiest part of the vehicle. This is especially evident in the modern electric vehicles that do not have any noise from internal combustion engines.
We can help you make a choice for your next set of tyres and recommend the quietest tyres that suit your particular vehicle.
